The Canon 5D Mark II has caught my attention, when looking at video camera options. Most others are extremely expensive. The canon 5d is reasonably priced for what you get. It boasts..

Movie recording in live view (1080p H.264 up to 12 minutes, VGA H.264 up to 24 mins per clip)

HDMI and standard composite (AV) video out

Examples of stills..

Here are some examples from the web of some stills from video footage..

Just an idea at the moment, but was thinking about the possibility of creating a joiner using still grabs from a video camera. To give an example, If i was to shoot a scene, lets say in sandymount. I would pan across the landscape. then grab the stills to create a 2d panoramic printable image.

Why? I’m not sure, but probably just to see if it works or to do something that has not been done before (possibly!).

Negatives

Why go to all that effort when you can just use a digital slr?

Will the resolution be good enough to print from?

If it is printable, you cant print large?

Positives

It is original.

You get to pick which still you want.

It is not dependant on ‘the right moment’

It challenges photographic technology
